Joe Willhoft Announces Retirement; Tony Alpert to Become Executive Director All of you should have received Joe’s note earlier this week announcing his plans to retire at the end of December. If not, it is attached. As discussed at the meeting yesterday, effective January 1, Chief Operating Officer Tony Alpert will become executive director of Smarter Balanced. Joe and Tony have worked in partnership since states first came together to seek a Race to the Top Assessment grant in 2009, so we expect a very smooth leadership transition.
